Recenzje / Reviews:

Na składance dominuje klasyczny old school czerpiący pełnymi garściami z dokonań YOUTH OF TODAY, GORILLA BISCUITS, INSTED czy JUDGE. Pozostały jeszcze trzy brygady, które się odrobinę wyróźniają: NO VIOLENCE z Brazylii (grają trochę ostrzej, a nawet dodają kilka grindowych wątków), hiszpański CRICKBAT (rozśpiewany wokalista serwuje całą gamę symptomów emo) i CITA ATTIEKSME z Łotwy (czuć fascynacje szkołą z Nowego Jorku). Jakość wydania (karton, książeczka, zdjęcia) jest dodatkowym atutem.

It is so rad to know there are youth crew bands from Malaysia and Croatia that fucking rip. "Take No Heroes" is a great international hardcore compilation focusing more on the fast and positive sid eof things. Surprisingly, there isn't one sleeper on this 71 minutes disc. While the liner notes make a point of saying that this is not a straight edge comp, the straight edge youth crew influence is undeniable on at least eight out of the ten bands featured. If I had to pick favorites, I would pick POINTING FINGER from Portugal, RAZLOG ZA from Croatia, FEUD from the Philippines, and ONLY WAY OUT from Poland. But like I said before, no sleepers-all keepers. Includes a thick booklet with lyrics and contacts for all the bands.

Take No Heroes is a 10-band compilation covering the last three years, and was co-released by several labels from around the globe. Like I stated in my review, this CD has no sleepers. It opens up with a band that I am already quite fond of, POINTING FINGER, from Portugal. POINTING FINGER plays fast youth crew very similar to BETTER THAN A THOUSAND. However, these songs were recorded a year or so before they released their 7" on Commitment Records, so they have a much rougher sound, more akin to 7 SECONDS. Next up is RAZLOG ZA, from Croatia. Their fourth song has CHAIN OF STRENGTH written all over it. But instead of "True till death", you get "Jedinstvo-Prijateljstvo-Snaga". This band is definitely one of the standouts. Following RAZLOG ZA is NO VIOLENCE from Brazil. NO VIOLENCE has the most eclectic sound on the comp. Imagine a more MOUTHPIECE-influenced MONSTER X with the occasional blast beat. Sounds better than I am describing it. Then we have FEUD from the Philippines. Damn, this band rules. Songs about homophobia, scene unity, and the straight edge. This is great introduction to a great straight edge band. After FEUD, we move on to POLAND where we meet up with ONLY WAY OUT. These Polish gentlemen definitely have the most modern , produced, youth crew sound out of all the bands. The band felt the need to put "x's" by each of their names in the liner notes, so I think you know what to expect. Great hardcore, however I could done without the faux-Nike logo. The sixth band on the comp, CRICKBAT, adds a melodic vocalist to the mix to set it apart. Hailing from Spain, this band wears their IGNITE influence not on their sleeves, but more like across their foreheads in big black magic marker. I haven't heard so much IGNITE worship since the Bay Area's MODEL AMERICAN. Representin' the U-S-of-A is the MUTINY, out of Colorado. Gruff vocals and a cover of JUDGE's "Fed up". No complaining. After that is SINCERITY, from Germany - decent fast hardcore with sentimental lyrics. Not too original, but still not bad at all. Leaving Germany, we come to CITA ATTIEKSME, from Latvia. The recording is a little flat, but overall this is pretty good, fast hardcore. Last but not least is SECOND COMBAT, from Malaysia. Klang Valley Straight Edge Represent! As soon as the vocals kicked in I thought of the great (but short-lived) band GAZPACHO from Los Angeles. Both sound like they are/were in high school. Regardless, this band is a good conclusion to a great compilation. You've got the information, now start writing!
