Recenzje / Reviews:

This band hails from Cleveland and plays positive hardcore that brings all the classics to mind: NO FOR AN ANSWER, YOUTH OF TODAY, CHAIN OF STRENGTH, etc. The overall sound definitely leans toward the melodic. Some of the octave chords leans in particular bring Start Today-era GORILLA BISCUITS to mind. Fortunately, however, as much as I will always love (and hate) that record, RIGHT IDEA doesn't take inspiration from its late-'80s youth crew production values or even song-writing approach. Instead they opt for an early version of the same style that has more in common with Break Down The Walls than Start Today. In other words, it's less produced, devoid of metallic leanings, and just generally more punk sounding. All this combined makes the melody work better than it might otherwise. Dig the songs, the lyrics, the message! The high-gloss sleeve is an interesting choice. Can't tel if I like that! Overall, this is a good record, that while not attempting to be very original, is chock-full of hooks and energy.

Wow! So sollte Hardcore klingen, wenn er ab der ersten Selunden Spass machen will. Cleveland Straight-Edge Irgendwo bei Youth Of Today anzusiedeln. Schone schnelle kompromisslose Songs ogne uberflussiges Geballer, 4 Songs pro Seite (auf 45). Absoluter Gewinner meines Review-Stapels. Kaufen!

The sounds of the new Cleveland scene and although RIGHT IDEA represent a break from everything that has come before from the PAGANS to INTEGRITY to 9 SHOCKS TERROR, RIGHT IDEA do continue of the straight edge tradition that has existed in the city since way back with YOUTH INC., CONFRONT, FACE VALUE, OUTBREAK and so many others that have come before. RIGHT IDEA remind me a lot of UNIFORM CHOICE, especially in the song "My say" with the use of the line "I'm not Sorry". Everytime I hear that line I hear Pat Dubar's "I'm Sorry" repetition in the song "My Own Mind". But this song does not define RIGHT IDEA's sound. The song "United Front" is one such example. The song tries to be like SHAM 69's "If the Kids are United" but there is a country twang that lies underneath. Regardless, it is a song with broader punk appeal than just the standard youth crew breakaway meets breakdowns and youth gang choruses. I love it all and for this brief bit of diversity I think of 7 SECONDS. Anyway I applaud for searching back to the roots of the straight edge revival because like punk and hardcore straight edge also has a multitude of influences. Kudos for taking more than one as a influence.

Brand new 7" from this Cleveland band on the almighty Refuse Records out of Poland. These guys clearly are inspired by the circa-1988 school of US straight edge, but they've got a bit more grit and drive than some of the tired American bands who play a similar style... this is clearly also rooted in early 80s stuff like the Abused and Antidote. They even switch things up with a oi!-style song on "United Front" and it works really well. Stunning packaging on this one too...

This little platter offers up eight tracks of straight-up hardcore from Cleveland, Ohio’s Right Idea. Whether or not straight edge is a “right idea” or not may be open for debate, but whether these guys blaze or not isn’t. I’m usually a little wary of bands that wear their personal politics on their sleeves in such a manner but was pleasantly surprised when the needle hit the vinyl. Don’t get me wrong, they do their fair share of youth crew style sing-alongs with pit-friendly thrash tempos, but they manage to do so in a manner that isn’t too preachy or dogmatic. –
